obsession of the month

Recycling old jewelry into bracelets. Cut some worn strings, dig up some charms, throw anything that can be threaded onto some hearty elastic. Voilá-- I love it! Instant artsy, funky, beaded collages; little bits of the past. Taken out of context, the mixed-and-matched collections remind me to see things in a different way. Is that too philosophical for a bracelet? Maybe. But I'll keep wearing them.

inspiration for my future coffee shop...

A few days ago I caught up with a friend at Lompoc Cafe (Bar Harbor, ME), where we enjoyed an eclectic dinner menu in the beautiful ocean air. Already in a good mood when we arrived, I was delighted to discover that the silverware was wrapped in festive cloth napkins. How cool! Not only is it an ecologically-friendly practice (especially with tourist season in full swing around here), but it's also a simple, fun way add character-- and art-- to the restaurant's quirky vibe. Perhaps I even enjoyed my green chile burger more because of the colorful square tucked in my lap.

It may be when we no
longer know what to do,
we have come to our real work,
and that when we no longer know which way to go,
we have begun our real journey.
